Henri Matisse Cut Paper

In one 45 minute instructional period both 3rd and 5th graders learned about Matisse's life, several of his works and completed their own cut paper abstract pieces. The third graders read Henri's Scissors by Jeanette Winter, while the fifth graders were shown The Sadness of the King and were asked to describe the piece in their own words. Students were given either one or two paper squares, scissors and glue sticks to create mirrored, cut paper pieces.
